2008 Junior Scholarship Winners
The Delaware State Golf Association would like to recognize the winners of the 2008 Scholarships. All scholarships are renewed annually provided grade averages are maintained. The main sponsors of the funding for the scholarships are the DSGA, Toyota Motors USA and the Bob McCurry National Invitation Golf Tournament held each spring at Rancho Mariage, California, for the benefit of the junior golf programs in California and Delaware. The DSGA would like to thank the estate of Harlan Young for its generous donation in 2007.
The DSGA Scholarship Committee awarded five four-year scholarships totalling $12,200 at their annual meeting held in May.
The following is a list of the winners:
- $5200 - Greg Matthias, Salesianum School, attending University of Delaware
- $3500 - Andrea Daly, St. Mark's High School, attending Methodist University
- $1500 - Ian Murphy, St. Elizabeth High School, attending Wilmington University
- $1000 - Stephanie Johnson, Milford High School, attending University of North Carolina, Wilmington
- $1000 - Shane Sanderson, Delaware Military Academy, attending Wilmington University
The Scholarships were awarded at the luncheon before the start of the Junior Rehoboth Open, played at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club on Monday, June 16th.
Ron Barrows, Head Golf Professional at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club, replaced the late Bob Mccurry as president of the DSGA Scholarship Fund.
The Scholarship program has 24 students now attending different schools throughout the country, at an annual cost of over $50,000.
