The Williamson Cup is a junior tournament where 4-men teams compete against teams from regional and international Golf Associations. The tournament began in 1964 as a match play event between four cities; New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Buffalo. In 1968 several more teams were added to the competition, including the first international teams from Quebec and Ontario; the format was also changed to stroke play. The competition is 36-holes with the lowest three of four scores from each round counting. The Delaware team is chosen through individual finishes in the Junior Championship, and the Amateur Championship. The team is captained by Joe Parker and Sam Onesi, and co-captained by Joseph Parker III and Eric Onesi. This years representatives from Delaware are, Jerry Temple Jr, Cavaliers CC, J.R. Fasy, Wilmington CC, Brian Barrow, Newark CC, and Andrew Baldo, White Clay Creek CC. The tournament will be held August 10th & 11th, at the Country Club of Scranton, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and hosted by the Pennsylvania Golf Association.

The 2008 Four Ball with Senior Flights tournament was played on a beautiful day at Chester River Yacht & Country Club with the field playing for net and gross prizes within flights. Several teams were both low gross and net in their flights; however they were only eligible to take one prize and received low gross over low net. Jerry Amende and Lonnie Adams, both of Three Little Bakers CC were over all low gross in the field with a 69, and the home club team of Doug Brown and Mel Hickman were over all low net in the field with 61. Only two teams survived the birdie pool; Chris Walker (Newark CC) and Rob Hogan (Three Little Bakers CC) on hole 16, and Dan Ward and Brian Lenderman, both of DuPont CC on hole 18.
"The Legacy Lives On....."
The 2008 DSGA Memorial Cup honored Bruce Cohen, of Cavaliers CC, an avid Delaware golfer and Delaware State Golf Association volunteer.
In September of 2006, we lost Bruce following a courageous two year battle with cancer. During this difficult time, Bruce continued to assist the DSGA as a volunteer at several events; we would always find Bruce eager to help and always smiling!
Kenneth Scott, a personal friend of Bruce has said, “When I think back about Bruce, I am reminded of the character Norm on "Cheers", a popular television series a few years ago. Norm was a likeable character with a huge personal presence and every time he entered the bar all of the patrons and employees would greet him with a rousing "NORM". Bruce's friendly smile and sparkling demeanor would light up any room that he stepped into. Bruce Cohen was the most gregarious man I ever had the privilege of calling my friend.”
The tournament was held on what most would say was a perfect day; sunny and a perfect temperature around 75. The field consisted of 68 players form Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Tom Borsello of Fieldstone GC, was the low medalist, and Flight 1 winner, with a score of 71, which earned him an exemption into the 2008 Delaware Amateur Championship. Mr. Borsello earned an exemption last year through several different avenues, one being that he was the 2002 Open Champion. Flight 2 winner was Kevin Oakes, Cavaliers CC, 76; Flight 3, Gibby Young, Hartefeld National GC, 79; Flight 4, Calvin Hudson, Ed Oliver GC, 77, and Flight 5, Greg Smith, Brandywine CC, 83. Please click the link below, for a complete list of Flight winners.
We would like to thank Mary Cohen, for her generous gifts for the field of players, and Cavaliers CC, their Pro, Dave McNabb, Assistant Pro, Mark Parisi, and the Superintendent Alan Gunter, and the banquet manager Marge Tramarco, for the excellent service and course conditions.

This year teams were able to choose whether they would compete in the, Scramble or Four Ball competition..
